Cliffhanger

Jacqueline Wilson - Personal Name; Nick Sharratt - Personal Name;

Cliffhanger follows the unwilling hero, Tim, a boy who despises sports, heights, and physical adventure. Against his will, his sports-obsessed father sends him to a terrifying action-packed adventure camp where activities include rock climbing, canoeing, and caving. Tim struggles miserably with every challenge and is intimidated by the other athletic children. Driven by the desire to escape, Tim attempts to run away, but his efforts are constantly foiled. The climax of the story occurs when the group faces a real-life crisis during an activity. Tim realizes that he must use his intelligence, planning skills, and map-reading abilities—not his physical strength—to save the day. The novel is a funny and heartwarming story about finding true courage and learning that heroism comes in many forms, regardless of athletic ability.
